One Day So Kids Can Play

Before and After

Roche, partnering with the non-profits KaBOOM! and the NJ Community Development Corporation, was privileged to be able to build a playground for 1,000 kids who have no safe place for play. As a result of this joint effort of 200 plus volunteers in May 2011, in one day, together we transformed Public School #5’s asphalt lot into a modern, safe playground. This was an extension of Paterson Public Schools' Full Service Schools Initiative, which ensures that the new playground will serve thousands of children in Paterson for years to come.

Roche always looks for projects that benefit the local community and have a lasting impact. This particular program fits our health and community giving focus. The need for physical activity in our children’s lives is an important issue right now as we face a growing problem with childhood obesity. Many advocates including First Lady Michelle Obama have stepped up to encourage physical activity and organizations from the NFL (Play 60) to companies like Roche have responded to provide the safe places for play.
