Diego Carranza Business Development Director

Diego Carranza began his Roche career in 1995, joining the company's U.S. organization in package development. After two years, he left Roche to pursue an advanced degree, returning to the company in 1999 to take a position in Finance. Approximately 30 months later, Diego accepted a Field Sales position in Chicago in order to broaden his experience. In 2003, he joined Roche's Pharma Partnering team, working in Basel, Switzerland, and now in Nutley, New Jersey.

Phama Partnering handles Roche business development and licensing activities and is responsible for the company's alliances with other pharmaceutical and biotech companies for the purpose of developing new medicines. "Every time the company signs a new business deal or enters into an alliance, we are increasing our chances of bringing a new medicine to market that will change a patient's life," Diego says.

Besides the chance to make a difference in patients' lives, Roche's international culture holds a special attraction for Diego. He enjoys interacting with and learning from people around the world. "Roche is very innovative, and there is no way that this can happen without global teamwork," Diego explains. In speaking of his career with the company, Diego praises Roche's commitment to his development and he again underscores the importance of Roche's global culture: "The company is able to provide a huge breadth of experience, especially international, as well as many incentives for people to grow and learn from others." As for career advice, Diego advocates a very flexible and proactive approach. "Always show that you're flexible - to make geographic moves, learn new things, or take on new responsibilities. And take your career into your own hands. It's up to you to make it happen," he says.
