![]() October 25, 2001 ROCHE CONTINUES SUPPORTING RELIEF EFFORT WITH $1 MILLION DONATION The terrorist attacks of September 11 have touched us all, and we've all reached out to help in one way or another. I am particularly proud of what Roche employees have done donating blood, materials, money and personal time to help those directly in need. But the need will continue for years to come. That is why I am pleased to announce that all of the Roche companies in the United States, representing Pharmaceuticals, Diagnostics and Vitamins, have combined resources and will make a donation in the amount of $1 million to the long-term relief effort. Our gift will be made through the Hoffmann-La Roche Foundation, in the name of Roche, to two nonprofit organizations for two distinct purposes to help with the emerging community and family needs which go beyond the initial disaster relief, and to focus that assistance in New Jersey. Supporting Roche Pharmaceuticals in this effort are Roche Bioscience Inc., Roche Carolina Inc., Roche Colorado Corporation, Roche Diagnostics Corporation, Roche Molecular Systems and Roche Vitamins Inc. We will donate $500,000 to the Independent College Fund of New Jersey to establish a special Post-secondary Student Assistance Fund for family members of victims of the attacks on September 11. We will also contribute $500,000 to the "September 11 Fund," a collaboration of the United Way and the New York Community Trust, to support the emerging environmental health impact of those events. With roughly a third of the affected families from the disaster residing in New Jersey, a focus on New Jersey students and New Jersey institutions is a logical choice for Roche. Resources for going beyond the current acute care to the more chronic care are critical. Many of the impacted individuals and families may lack sufficient health coverage or access to ensure their needs are met or even identified. Assisting in this area is another logical focus for Roche. Roche employees and the company as a whole have responded to this disaster in a compassionate and compelling way, and we will continue to do so.
