Employee Programs

Employee Volunteering
Employee Volunteering

Volunteering has often been called the ultimate gift because it is rewarding to the giver as well as the receiver. Hundreds of Roche volunteers have reported the immeasurable value of helping others, and Roche has benefited from these gestures of good will. We have several employee volunteer programs for full-time regular employees of Roche or participating affiliate companies.

Global Roche Employee AIDS Walk

Once a year, our Nutley employees join with their Roche colleagues worldwide to raise funds for children whose lives are impacted by HIV/AIDS and in observance of World AIDS Day. Roche sponsors this Global Roche Employee AIDS Walk and matches the funds raised. Proceeds from this event provide support for an international organization that is helping orphans in Malawi, Africa, and benefits local HIV/AIDS organizations in the respective Roche communities.

L.D. Barney Roche Volunteer Program
L.D. Barney Roche Volunteer Program

If a Roche employee is a volunteer with an organization, the organization may be eligible for Roche support. Roche recognizes that volunteers provide a valuable service to the community and can be a force for positive change. In addition, employees engaged in volunteer activities are a valuable resource for helping to identify trends, problems and possible solutions for community issues. Our L.D. Barney Roche Volunteer Program is designed to encourage active full-time Roche employees to volunteer to work with community, social service, health, voluntary and educational agencies or organizations.

Roche Tutoring Program

The Roche Tutoring Program is comprised of employees interested in making a difference in a young person's life by fostering a personal relationship with a special child while providing academic support. By volunteering their time each week, Roche Tutors help children improve their study skills, enhance their self-esteem and increase their desire to learn.

Matching Gifts for Education and Hospitals Program

The Matching Gifts for Education and Hospitals Program was established by Roche to encourage active full-time regular employees of Roche or participating affiliated companies to support hospitals, institutions of higher education and private secondary schools. Roche will match employee contributions to institutions in the United States that meet the qualifications defined under the Matching Gifts for Education and Hospitals Program and are recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt.

Domestic Disaster Relief: Roche Matching Employee Contributions for Medical Relief and Assistance

As a company dedicated to people's health and well-being, Roche matches employee contributions to efforts that address emergency medical and health needs in disaster areas within the U.S. Roche administers this policy in conjunction with the National American Red Cross. The company relies on the Red Cross criteria for circumstances that constitute U.S disasters and these are determined on a case by case basis.

The Roche Commitment to the United Way

The core mission of United Way is to bring people together to address the human care needs in their local community. The United Way identifies and supports health and human service agencies and programs that provide needed services in local areas. Each United Way organization is local and independent, governed by a volunteer board composed of corporate, labor and community leaders. United Ways typically are both fund raising and community problem solving organizations.

Roche conducts a single charitable campaign through the United Way because it provides a way to support the widest variety of health and human services making it possible to address a variety of community problems with just one gift. United Way's overhead costs are low and the agencies that receive United Way funding are efficient and effective, meaning contributions are always put to the best use. Roche believes it is an excellent way for the company and employees to join together to help those with the greatest need and invest in the communities where we live and work.
