"When Breast Cancer Comes Back: Skills for Living"
Roche is committed to discovering and developing new
and innovative treatments for people with cancer. Moreover, Roche is equally dedicated to
providing information, education and support, so that individuals with cancer and their
loved ones can be armed with the tools and insight necessary to make sound decision and
live their lives to the fullest.
Media Works is a non-profit organization that creates and produces educational videos and
other media to promote awareness of important health issues. Roche was the lead corporate
partner in the production and distribution of a video developed by Media Works called, "When Breast Cancer Comes Back: Skills for
Living" and
provided in-kind support to produce the accompanying informational materials. The project
is designed for women with metestatic breast cancer, their families and for the training
of physicians and other caregivers.
Each year tens of thousands of women are told that their cancer has returned and spread
through their body. The real life testimonials contained in the video convey the poignant
and powerful range of issues a woman faces when breast cancer returns. When Breast Cancer Comes Back: Skills for Living enables them to gain comfort and insight into how others cope with
the emotional and physical challenges of their recurring diagnosis. The accompanying Patient
Resource Guide provides a summary of each video segment, questions for individual
reflection and a listing of resources including national organizations, websites, books
and hotlines. An additional component of When Breast Cancer Comes
Back: Skills For Living is a poster entitled, "33 Ways To Take Care of
Your Self."
When Breast Cancer Comes Back: Skills for Living is
being distributed nationally to patients, health organizations, medical schools, health
care providers and caregivers.
