Nutley Site Remediation and Repurposing

pixFlagAtBldg76

As part of an effort to streamline global research and development, business operations ceased on the Hoffmann La Roche Inc. (Roche) site in Nutley, N.J., in December 2013 and all research projects were transferred to locations in Europe. Roche Pharma continues to have a presence on the U.S. East Coast with the Roche Innovation Center New York and on the West Coast with the North American Pharmaceuticals headquarters, Genentech, in South San Francisco, Calif.

Roche plans to divest the Nutley property by the end of 2015. When Roche made this decision, it committed to doing it the right way so the property can be returned safely and as quickly as possible to productive use. Roche will retain responsibility for cleaning up the site after the divestiture occurs.

Building 123 & 123A

Hackensack University Hospital Network and Seton Hall University announced in January 2015 that they are planning to locate a new private medical school on the Roche campus in one of the state-of-the-art buildings (Building 123 & 123A). While subject to Economic Development Authority approval, if this venture goes forward, Hackensack and Seton Hall would become the anchor tenant for the property, help with the repurposing of the site, and be beneficial for the surrounding communities. •  A dedicated team remains on the Nutley site, conducting a comprehensive environmental investigation and cleanup under the oversight of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and consistent with Roche global Sustainability principles. The company has already begun approved remediation on-site.

• Roche has worked closely with officials in the Township of Nutley and City of Clifton as part of a Joint Repurposing Committee (JRC) for discussing the best options to repurpose the 118-acre site. Roche also engaged real estate experts from Jones Lang LaSalle to assist with the divestiture of the property.
